Music Time!!! (cont.) [pt. 6] Feist

Yes, like many of the rest of you all I heard the dulcet tones of Feist 1 2 3 4er-ing me during that captivating iPod commercial and was intrigued. After listening to live performances over YouTube (that's right, listening - while at work I go to YouTube, put in the song title I want to hear, let the video play in the background but have the benefit of the song while I work on what I'm supposed to be working on. Clever, iddenit?), I too was entranced y the sirenic songstress.



Here, then, her not-super-popular cover song, Secret Heart, the lyrics of which I find adorable. Though we can't credit her for them, that honor goes to Ron Sexsmith, I love her version of it anyway:

How cute is that? I wish someone would dedicate this song to me then declare their love. Who? Erm, I don't have anyone in mind. I just like the sentiment. Maybe Colin Firth, Ben Harper or that kid who played hockey at my school that I used to have an antagonistically flirtatious relationship with, the one who traveled the world upon graduating and who I lost touch with and who still pops in my head, like right now. =sigh= Oh well. Music Time!!!! (cont.) [pt. 4] The Holiday/Winter Time edition

In the previous blogs, I began discussing "Music That's New to Me in 2007", purchased from iTunes this year, and all the little stories and links that go along with it. Consider it a tome to new and old music alike and the glory of having it all at your fingertips thanks to the magic of iTunes.

Dean Martin "Baby It's Cold Outside" because its Mom's favorite and I was making her a Christmas CD. My favorite version is Louis Armstrong, but Mom's favorite is Dean Martin, so that's what she got. I also like it when the girl in Elf sings it. Did you see that "Wizard of Oz" spin-ff on Sci Fi channel featuring The Girl in Elf as a Dorothy-like person? I saw the middle of it, then decided to wait for the re-run of the whole thing before watching the conclusion. It was good.

Otis Redding "White Christmas" because it is my all time favorite Christmas song ever - #1) I love Otis Redding. Really, how could you not? The soul. Remember that episode of Sex and the City during Fleet Week and it end with "Try a Little Tenderness"? Otis Redding is applicable to all romantic situations, hence reason #2) It's the featured song during the montage/tie-in moments of one of my favorite movies, Love Actually. Remember? When my husband, Colin Firth, decides to ditch the family Christmas party and fly to Portugal to get together with that cute girl, Aurelia? Oh God, I love that movie.

Prince The Very Best of Prince which isn't Christmas-y by any means. However, I did purchase this after the Super Bowl last year (this year, last year's season). Remember the sheet and the phallic guitar playing? That Prince is way messed up but way talented. So, even though this isn't a Christmas thing, it's a winter purchase and can fall under the umbrella ella ella.

Corinne Bailey Rae Corine Bailey Rae-Rarities plus the single "Like a Star" - because I heard the "Like a Star" song on an episode of Medium and loved it. CBR was also on Studio 60 when they had enough in their budget for actual musicians

Can we have a moment of silence for Studio 60? And if you're like me and very concerned about the welfare of the cast members of Studio 60, fear not. D L Hughley is touring again. We just missed him at the Comedy Connection. Bradley Whitford and Matthew Perry have endless revenue from re-runs and DVD releases of their gigantically huge shows. The guy from Wings looks as though he may become a regular on Brothers and Sisters as a love object for the bitchy sister from 6 Feet Under. Amanda Peet has been in movies galore. Sara Paulson's filming a movie. The British girl who was in the original "The Office" was in the original "The Office" so she permanently kicks ass and...I think that's everyone, right? Well, all the important people who don't DUMP SOMEONE ON VALENTINE'S DAY. -- And to answer your question: No. No, I will not ever get over it. Ever. And I'm still very sorry, J osh, for making out with Nate when I was supposed to be going out with you the year after the dumping occurred. How could I cheat on J osh with a tool like Nate? Jo sh was such a nice boy who gave me such a great Valentine's Day the year after that tool Nate BROKE UP WITH ME ON VALENTINES DAY. I don't know. I was 16. Capriciousness and hormones abound. Reasoning does not. My sincerest apologies. (You know why it bugs me so much? Because I still think he's cute, despite all his toolishness. And when I heard him on that godforsaken episode of MY RADIO SHOW, Fresh Air, I was thinking, "If I met him today, I'd have a crush." Erin would be vomiting right now if she read my blog. She finds Nate repulsive. Do we blame her? How would you feel about someone who asked you to your prom, not his, while helping you up off the concrete tennis court after you got knocked in the head? She should have said "yes" only because it would have meant she'd get closer to Pa ul M orse. Regardless, the point is that he's still cute to me. Ugh. I gotta shake this habit of crushes on the unworthy dweeb. I don't understand how my brain works sometimes.)

Let's see, what have I purchased since I first started my iTunes librarianship?

Ben Harper Burn to Shine because I lost my original - this is so funny that I mention this CD since I was just talking about the athlete crushes. This always reminds me of the time I was so antagonistically smitten with K evin! How appropriate!

Carole King Tapestry because of the Gilmore Girls' final season - Carole King is one kick ass songwriter, but you probably already knew that. Oddly enough, the song I think is the worst on Tapestry is "Tapestry". It's cheesy and canned. The rest all pack a little Carole King-ish punch. It was probably written by Manilow. I should do some research on that. It'll be in a follow up blog. This one's just an over view.

Cat Power The Greatest because Mom liked the Cat Stevens cover in the diamond commercial - I like her and I don't care who thinks she only "made it" because she is pretty and wear high fashion. The songs are still gorgeous.

Cat Stevens The Very Best of Cat Stevens because I lost or gave away my other one - I just mentioned his cover by Cat Power, but I got Cat Stevens because it reminds me of my 21st birthday. My mom took me out at 10 PM on the 13th. We had two pints of Guinness in a small pub and the live band in the bar, which had only about 15 people in it, played some Cat Stevens songs. My 21st birthday week was a fabulous celebration.

First, I have to say that you know it's been a long day at the cubicle when you get a shoulder cramp from your mousework. Now that that's out of the way...

It's Music Time!!!!

But for real...Can we have a moment of silence for my old laptop? Laptop, you were a great resource. You helped me launch this blog, learn Adobe CS2, get the fifty jobs I've had since I moved back to Massachusetts, do my first semester of homework for graduate school and manage my photos and music, and all while helping me get the latest information on things like General Hospital, politics, the Red Sox and the where abouts of my college crushes (the ones that are easily Google-able because they play semi pro sports).

Thanks, old laptop. I will miss you.

Onward. No tears.

So, since my laptop died, I've squatted my mom's second laptop, the broken one. (Seriously, who needs two laptops?) Slowly but surely I've been uploading things like manuscripts for novels I'll never finish, photos from Wine Parties at Sadie and Jay's and today, iTunes.

Hi again, iTunes. I missed you. How are you? Oh, you've got updates for my iPod? Yes, yes you may perform them. Thank you for asking. No I don't want this new library to go in the iPod. Yes, I would like you to add all my purchases to this computer. I didn't know you could do that! Phew!

Wow, I purchased quite a bit of music this past year! I should blog about that!
