This Is Real

Trolling the political blog and found this link to a doodle of Sarah Palin's--from when she was considering running for mayor.

I don't know why it's disturbing, but it is. Maybe because it's so vacuous of actual content. It looks like notes from when I'm planning a trip or a bulletin board for the library...Just, so, unceremonious. Yet these notes were made just, what 8 years ago? And now the woman who doodled this has her eyes set on the VP and, since McCain is mostly dead, the presidency?

Yikes.

Liz Phair

Just got back to Chicago, where Liz Phair wrote "Exile in Guyville" back in the early 90s. And then, Liz Phair was on the radio this afternoon, talking about a new, remastered version of "Exile in Guyville".

I didn't know how hard a time she had dealing with its success afterwards. Apparently, it was so hard that she ended up making that super pop, overly produced poopy thing back in 2003. But now the old Liz is back, because the other Liz didn't make enough money...Oh, I'm so cynical. Whatever her failings after EIG, it's still one kick ass Girl Power Anthem rock music album and I will always love it.

Here's to Liz.

New Books & Lorine Niedecker

I got a bunch of new books but I will have to wait until after Chicago to post my latest list.

In the meantime, here's a poem from one of my new books Collected Works of Lorine Niedecker

When Ecstasy is Inconvenient

Feign a great calm
all gay transport soon ends.
Chant: who knows--
flight's end or flight's beginning
for the resting gull?

Heart, be still
Say there is money but it rusted;
say the time of moon is not right for escape.
It's the color of the lower sky
too broadly suffused,
or the wind in my tie.

Know amazedly how
often one takes his madness
into his own hands
and keeps it.

I like my new book.

Testy Old Coot

John McCain gets cranky with someone from the Des Moines register. Yeah Irish temper. What an a$$.

Going to Chicago

Leaving for Chicago tomorrow, so I won't be doing any blogging for a few days, I don't think.

Of course, I'll write about it when I get back!

AND both Chicago baseball teams are in the playoff this week! Crazy!
