I should be in bed, but it's hard to wind down after such a day.
Oh wait, I just blinked and almost fell asleep.
Oh crap. I'm going to have to write more later, when it's not hot and I'm not tired and it's not hot.
Did I mention it's hot?
I will say this: for the first time in about 10 years I went to the Middle East to eat dinner. I had the same thing I had the last time. The Pumpking thingie that's a vegetarian entree, not a dessert. US is one of the few places that don't use the pumpkin in regular dishes. This should be remedied, as my dinner was delish.
Emily came down from Orono with Allison to see the Morrisey concert. Mary, another of Emily's friends, lives in Cambridge and Mary's friend Tyler. We all met up to have dinner before Mr Cranky Pants show at the BoA Pavilion (where I saw Tori two summers ago with Jenny), then they were going back to Cambridge to stay with Mary for the night.
Obviously, I'll have lots to say about the cruise to Bermuda. As soon as I upload the pics, I'll make a photo entry, with comments, like with the "If You've Never Been to Fenway" series.
Bedtime.
Oooh, speaking of Fenway, that poor ol' Gabbard or Dabbard or whatever his name is should've taken Susan Sarandon's advice and worn the garter for his first appearance in the Show. YIKES! Poor bugger.

LOST
No, I'm not talking about the TV show. I'm talking about my romp around MetroWest/North of Boston today. I missed a turn to Somerville in Belmont and went straight to hell in a handbasket after that.
MapQuest this and remember this was from 4:45 to 6:00 PM IN BOSTON.
Instead of going East on Rt 16, I continued on Mt Auburn St to Memorial Drive to Massachusetts Ave to ??? to ??? to Somerville Ave, missed the turn to Central St, turned all the way around once I got to Massachusetts Ave, back down Somerville Ave to Summer St to Highland, but after Central St, so I had to turn around again and finally, finally, finally to the Davis Sq.
So, I know my way around Harvard, Inman Sq, Central Square, Porter Sq, Union Sq, Town of Belmont and city of Waltham.
Seriously.
Now I'm at over-priced pretentious Diesel again. I shall be here with all the hipster and hairy armpit and ambiguously gendered baristas. I would say that this was far from Maine, but it's not that different from place in Portland and the Fogler Library cafe. There's less Urban Hipsters and more Dreadlocked White People.
So, the new job. Yeah, mad props to the copywriters of the world out there. Tisn't easy to write good copy.
The weekend of five parties was successfully concluded with the arrival of dad's brother, Uncle Billy, at midnight from Greensboro. It went like this for me: shower, shower, grad party, birthday party, birthday dinner.
I need a weekend to recover from my weekend.
As it is, I think I'll just go on a cruise for a week.
Just 6 more days until Bermuda!

The Almost No-Hitter
Story for you:
I am currently in Davis Sq, Somerville to do homework and wait out the commuter traffic.
I stopped at this place called Mike's before coming to the packed and pretentious Diesel Cafe. I am only here because I don't know the area well enough. I will go elsewhere, preferably where the wifi is free, when/ if I move here.
Anyway, there I was reading, taking notes, eating a slice of cheese pizza and having a Pete's Strawberry to watch the second half of the Oakland game when it finally became the 7th inning. Everyone in the joint (I've always wanted to call a place a joint, and this place is very neighborhood joint-y) was engrossed. No one was saying the term, though. We were just alluding to it. "Oh, wow, there are zero hits so far." But everyone know, you don't say IT, especially after the 7th.
Anyway, a group of people were all meeting at the bar area in front of me. A new person joined the group and asked about the game at the end of the 8th and some dude said, "Yeah, Schilling's pitching a no-hitter!" To which I--much to my subsequent horror--busted out my deadliest, most effective librarian "SSSSSHHHHHHHH!!!!" from two tables away.
I was SO EMBARRASSED after I did it. I couldn't believe I had just told a complete and total stranger to shush in a public. Everyone in the group looked at me. "Never say it," I said sheepishly."Sorry," I shrugged ans shook my head, "I'm superstitious and they can hear you in Oakland."
To which everyone--member of the group of friends and other watchers of the game--murmured their assent.
Shortly there after, Schill did give up a hit with two men out in the 9th, but that was secondary to the 1-0, after this four game slump.
Dang he's good. Even if he is a Republican.

If You've Never Been to Fenway: the peeps
The Fans Make It All Worth While
There are some choice characters at Fenway on game day. Check out these fans.
This is Myrtle (R) and Karen (we all know what Karen's like). They are season ticket holders and have been coming to Fenway since 1957.
Just kidding. I have know idea what their names are or if they go to Fenway often. I just thought they both had some serious style.
This guy had a sign next to him. You can't see it but it says, "I will be humiliated at the end of this game due to my team being slaughtered. Also, feel free to beat the crap out of me."
BTW, Red Sox 13, Birds a lowly, sad 5. And they lost the next night, too.
If I am ever old enough to get married, I really do want someone to do this cheesy-assed thing for me. I love baseball and I love being a ham. This sort of thing would combine the two quite well.
I hope she said yes.
Apparently, it was this woman's birthday. As much of a hammy goofball as I am, I would never ever be caught dead looking like this.
Though, she seems really happy (drunk?), so who am I to criticize.
Yesterday the Fenway fan camera captured three young teenage girls sitting in the Dunkin Dugout flipping their hair back and forth, applying lipgloss and generally preening. Meanwhile, there was a major league baseball game going on in front of them. But, who cares about that? I mean, haircare is essential to picking up the pervy drunk frat boys in the rows in front of them. Anyway, here is another example of young'uns not doing so well with the paying attention to the game.
Hey, kid, the game's that way.
And now for the ultimate fan. This took some serious blood (literally) and probably some sweat and tears, so I was impressed and I'm sure lots of other people are, too.
F*ck yeah, man.
And I try not to curse on this blog, but this definitely deserves a respectful f-bomb.
Next Fenway entry: a history lesson, also an explanation why if Mass Million numbers ever came out 1 4 8 9 27 42, it would be split 17,000 ways.

Epistles to Ikea, the reprise
Dear Ikea,
I wanted to write about the second- and third-to-last times I came to visit. Both times were with Rene.
The first one was during February vacation. I was cleaning my room and trying to figure out how you could help me with my small living space issues while watching General Hospital. (Mais bien sur!) GH ended and on came Oprah who did that day's show with Nate, which was, rather serendipitously, about living in small spaces featuring products from---YOU! (Mais bien sur!)
It gave me some good ideas, particularly about "going up" for storage space--using veritcal space rather than horizontal space. Also, finding multi-functional pieces to use; like Transformers, only instead of cars to robots, it's table to desk.
I took some before and after shots. Just click to enlarge the photos.
Here's my bureau:

Here's one of my walls:

Here's my desk:

Those are shoe wracks that I used instead as mini-shelves in order to "build up" for storage options. The magazine holders are 2 for $.39 and I use them for everything.
So, all that is left is the second to last time I visited you. I will write about that day very soon.
Thanks again, Ikea, for your brilliance.
Sincerely,
Bridge
