Stupid Banner Ads in Email

Stupid Banner Ads in Yahoo Email

Look at this:
Doesn't this chick look like she's trying to give birth or take a dump? It's supposed to be "sexy" but instead it's just icky.

I'm annoyed. So, I went to the website because I didn't understand what a MacBook Air and a woman who looks like she pooping have in common.

Then I saw the butter face:

And all doubts that this was just some scummy, scammy, cheap-ass ploy with out-of-work porn stars as models was quickly dissipated.

Who falls for these scams? Someone must because they keep coming up.

Perhaps we can ask Art Shaw, the Chairman and CEO of NetBlue Inc, which is the parent company for YourGiftPro.com. Do you think one of the perks of the job of being in charge of scamming people out of their email addresses is sleeping with these lovely models? I bet Mrs. Shaw probably knows.

On Hiding Your Boston Accent If You're Journalist

I love when I listen to a journalist and can guess where they're from in the Boston area.

For instance, one day a few years ago I had just tuned in to Morning Edition and heard someone reading a "This I Believe" essay. I turned to my commuter mate and said, "This man is from the South Shore - Weymouth or Quincy."

As we wound our way down the secluded Maine backroads, she looked at me funny and said, "How do you know that?"

"He talks like everyone I know."

I was right, too. It was Mark Shields.

A few months ago, I was listening to All Things Considered and something about the way Tom Bowman said his name - with a bit of a twist on the "o"s...made me think he was a Bostonian of some sort. I guessed Braintree. I emailed this guess to my source at NPR and he wrote back about 15 minutes later, "Norwood." It's good to know people.

And just now, during CNN's coverage of Super Tuesday, John King said one word - I don't remember exactly what; it was some word that ended in an "er" - but his er word ended with an "ah" and I knew. I said aloud "Metrowest" - thinking Dedham, West Roxbury, etc. A google search yields that he went to Boston Latin. It's bothering me not knowing exactly, so, of course, I emailed him...

I doubt he'll write back though.

Who's a Girlie Girl? I am! I am!

So, now that Super Tuesday is over, I will formally endorse the candidate I voted for today:

And I say: No, Hillary, thank you. Thank you for being the first woman I've ever voted for in a presidential race. I must admit, I got teary in the voting booth. First, because I had two remarkable choices - good candidates who are "firsts" (viable firsts, that is) when it comes to presidential politics and, second because I voted for a woman.

Why I picked her: She blew me away in every single debate. There is no doubt that Obama is the better speech giver. He's electric and inspiring. But when she debates and talks about what she'll do, how she'll do it, why she'll do it -- I've never heard a person speak with such clear vision and precision. I have been relentlessly impressed and super excited about the prospect.

So, that's my vote and I'm sticking to it. I have to now, actually. Ha ha.
