This Week in WTF - My Own Personal Sad Realization

So, here's my tragedy for this week (besides getting in a minor fender bender today & Mom's scary spill down the cellar stairs). Last week, after months of job searching, interviewing, etc, I was offered a job at a town library. Yay, right? But, a few days later, they had to revoke the offer because the town instated a hiring freeze. They are worried about receiving enough funding from the state to help with municipal costs. So, instead of working for a weekly income, I sit at home (and blog) and receive just a little bit less money than I'd earn from my potential job by, instead, collecting state unemployment.

Painful painful irony.

  1. On my job search, I can give you this lovely anecdote. I've interviewed three times with a pre-paid credit card company, and basically been courted with loving emails about how well I'll fit in, etc. Then, last week, they stop all contact. Finally, at 5:15 PM on Friday, I get an email from the CFO telling me that they acquired 3 more companies, but those companies came fully stocked with employees, so they're now going to see if there's any "synergy" (seriously, use something better than a late 1990's bs business babble) with the current employees, so they're unable to extend me an offer at this time. Whatever. It took you a week to decide this? Walmart, here I come.
